Chimney Swift's Three Things About Sagas of Sundry: Dread Episode 6

It's been a long time coming, but I've finally finished...Dread.

1. Not thrilled about the Native American "ritual" to cleanse the mesa. I liked the ideas behind it, the themes and focuses and intensity, but. Really? A "Native American" "cleansing ritual"? Not your best work, Geek and Sundry.

2. That said, that was a solid ending. Stakes were high, emotions were fraught, themes were tied up, and it didn't feel contrived. Or, at least not any more contrived than the rest of the show was. I loved Ivan tipping the tower over. I knew that it was him losing and that they had won, and it was this almost immediate sense of relief. What a cool mechanic. What a cool game.

3. I wanted a little more breathing room though. That show was a lot, all the time. But it was also an RPG show? As a viewer, I wanted a little of the actors at the end, just for a bit of relief from all the intensity. One of the strengths of RPG shows, in my mind at least, is that it allows viewers to see a little bit of the people behind characters and stories. It creates a stronger bond between the viewers and the show, though it does do this at a detriment to the story. Some of the fangs are taken out, but the connection is greater, I guess? In any case, I felt a little rushed into the ending of Dread.

3a. Dang, it is so cool when actors just trust each other so much. You can tell all these folks know each other, and that in some cases are quite close. It's cool!

3b. Well, I enjoyed the heck out of Dread. Will I watch Madness? Probably! In any kind of timely manner? Most definitely not. :)
